End of semester: Some conclusions

Considering that we are very close to the end of the semester, and with this, the subsequent end of the English classes, the moment where we have to express our personal opinion about it has come, and I have to say that my conclusion include a lot more of positivism compared to the last year.

But firstly, speaking about one of the main factors of the class: the teacher, I could say that I am very satisfied with her. In terms of “professional tasks”, she always has the best disposition to work with us and answering our questions. She always had composure and a good attitude with us in that kind of situations where we simply don’t follow the ideal goal of the class (effectively, speaking in English hah…). And in my case, veeeery good disposition with the overdue tasks.

Now speaking about the contents of the class in general, I’m a bit more satisfied in terms of objective or “school contents”. Compared to the last year, I feel that during these classes we told more about things like grammatical tenses, phrasal verbs, some prepositions, etc.

It could be better in that topic, but I don’t really know if that decisions it depend strictly of the teacher.

Now, talking about new activities, contextualizing, I usually practice English through internet; like answering questions, discussing with others about a topic we like, etc.; but with the classes of this year I feel that the oral side of the subject was better complemented with the “video mechanic”. It allows you the chance of improving that ability through talking about easy themes without the pressure of being observed. For me at least, it helps me to correct that insecurity.

Just some academic matters

Talking about the curriculum of my career (anthropology), i only can say that my personal problem with it is the lack of subject that uses the “practical route” or objective route.

At least in the second semester of the last year, we finally could have a subject that was based almost entirely in field work, and now I really missed other like that one.

That is because I’m interested in Physic Anthropology and the career seems to be aimed to give an experience more oriented to the social side that the scientific side.

This also can be analysed with the teacher´s method; I really miss that kind of classes with a lot of objective information, like the first Evolution class that we had in our first semester. That kind of classes with more academic content and tests.

Same with technology, but at least in my career I think that is a little too early to introduce us to the computer side, because the ways that the computers can be used depends too much with the specific mention where we are.

In summary, I think that I will enjoy the career again when we finally can choose the mention that we want. It is only a sad feeling that we can start to do it barely in the third year.

But looking for a positive side, also we can say that the career have been very flexible in terms of schedule and workload. Compared to other careers, for now we haven’t so many classes in the same day.

Some other opinions

What is your opinion about “barras bravas” (hooligans)?

-       As a person who likes go to stadium, I have to admit that the collective experience there is especially exciting. You feel connected with the people around you; you feel that all are one. For this, I can empathize a bit with the radical followers, but the problem starts with the ignorance and the lack of education/tolerance.
I think that these people let them flow their emotions wrongly, they aren’t so different that people capable of committing real crimes.

What is your opinion about tattoos?

-       I don’t see anything wrong in tattoos. I consider it is a kind of art for some people. Through the tattoos is possible to express who we are, how we are, how we think about our world, etc.
Ignoring the esthetical factor, any of us have the right to do whatever we want with our body.

What is your opinion about recycling?

-       I think that is an initiative very respectable. It can make a difference in little places.
The issue is that the real problem points to the massive industries and “capitalism way” as itself.
We, as conscious minority group, can try to apply all the ways of recycling, but if we are not ready to change the way we do the things on a large scale, we are not change too much actually

What is your opinion about owning an exotic pet?

-       It can be an idea very interesting, but the discussion falls to the owners. If they are not responsible people and they don’t bother in trying to investigate properly about habitats, alimentation, etc.; the probability of having accidents will increase.
The problem are not the animals, the problem are their owners

Conspirative Theories

Even with a lot of more interesting conspirations existing around the internet, this time I’m going to talk about a theory more “realistic” or believable for us: To use actors, impostors or infiltrators as causal persons  in polemical events.

In a few words, the real theory says that the government infiltrates real actors as interviewees in polemical events like terrorist attacks or gunfires. In our context, for example, the theory can be visualized saying that the government actually infiltrates real police officers as protesters. This is because the government wants to get dirty that kind of manifestations. They want to manipulate the popular opinion about those events.

For us, the young generation, knowing that the government is manipulating the TV opinion isn’t  a big revelation. Actually, we can find some archives and photos about protesters acting suspiciously. Like the video of a men in 2011 wrongly arrested, during a protest, by other police officers. This because the film actually show us how that supposed protester hides elements of Carabineros in his backpack. Other example, also during 2011, shows us how an “encapuchado” is moving freely inside a police bus. The last example carries us to 2014, during other manifestation. A supposed protester is acussed as infiltrater police, after the pressure, this guy extract a real and loaded gun to other guy that throw him water. The film show us how other polices want to protect the supposed protester with the gun from other real protesters. The excuse, that guy was a retired military ¿How we can confirm that?

What’s your opinion?

Post-Studies

The reasons of thinking about post-graduate studies are not too difficult to understand. With our actual context is almost imperative to have an extra experience for like anything.  It’s a free extra bonus for our CV. It makes us more attractive to the actual global market.
Now, speaking more detailed, I would like to specialize more in my personal mention: bio anthropology, so taking any studies that allow me that extra experience are going to be good received. Studying out of Chile would be ideal, reality say us that the quality of the education in other countries are better than Chile.
Now, if you ask if im considering other career, i always have thinking in pedagogy. I think that is a career very valuable for society, but sadly at the same time, very discredited.

Despite all, i definitely think that in some moment i will star to study pedagogy, but that will happen when i have the appropriate age and experience. In my opinion, to be a teacher requires you to have a charismatic personality to focus the attention of the students. Have good dominion of the specific content, good explanation, etc. You know that kind of experiences and attitudes that can be obtained, but no necessarily, with maturity

Future Job

Speaking about of a “instant” job, it isn’t necessary to imagine in excess if we considering that actually I am studying anthropology. In this case, my career gives me too much interest, in first place, for it flexibility in the actual laboral field, and a second one could be its applications in diverse social contexts. But, like some things in the world, my career has one or two principal problems: the actual demand in work, a very unstable standard in remunerations and a general ignorance of the people if we talk about the practical and instant results. Some things that compromise the reliability of the employers.
Considering then a specific mention of my career, my principal interest falls into physical anthropology or deeper, in forensic anthropology. In few words, it attracts me directly because its application and usefulness make it a bit more solid, in my opinion, in the laboral field. Reason one, a subject of study too much “real”, current, or “palpable” in our context: the finding of the disappeared detainees, victims of the military dictatorship. And reason two, also a direct product of this, a more knowledge of the people about the practical importance of the job.
Now, if I must be honest, my interest in long-terms falls into the teacher job, specifically, history teacher job. It attracts me generally because I really enjoy the task of teaching other people. Feel that sensation of satisfaction when you really can dissipate their doubts.
But also, I have to recognize that the job it isn’t too easy. You have to have a charismatic personality to focus all the attention most of the time. Have too much dominion of your content, reflected in the capacity to abridge clearly in explanations and the capacity to contextualize all the content for a successful knowledge, etc. Generally, I think it require that kind of experiences that only can be obtained “naturally” with the pass of the years.
A very tough road, but I really think that I can do it. I hope that you too šŸ˜‰

Concert/Holiday Topic

First of all, let me be honest. I have never gone to a concert until now, that’s because, sadly, some of my favourite artist are actually dead (Like Michael Jackson or Chester Bennington), other rarely or never have gone to Chile (like ACDC) and speaking about the last ones, I don’t have the sufficient enthusiasm or fanaticism to go to see them in a live concert… they are something like “casual artists” I perfectly can see them through YT or TV… So, as you can see, I don’t have too much to say about this particular topic hah... :c

Now, referring to holidays, sadly I neither can say a lot if you are waiting for a specific situation, I guess my best holidays was those where I was a child; like my first experience in the beach, my first trip in bus, my first trip to ConcepciĆ³n, etc. You know… that kind of experiences that never leave your mind. Lifetime memories.

But sincerely, looking for a excuse to ending positively the post, i have discover that, along with that feeling of "pessimism" that sometimes emerge with maturity that many times move you to be disappointing with the reality of your world, i also have learnt to enjoy the short moments. Even if the last holidays weren't the best ones, never its too late to take advantage of the situation and make "little smiles". These are unique. Unrepeatable moments in your life with your loved ones.
